Playing sports is so good for your body. It helps get rid of extra fat, lowers cholesterol, reduces blood pressure, builds endurance, releases endorphins (aka "runner's high"), and so much more. However, it can also take a toll on your body. When you work all of those muscles all of the time and they are building and increasing in mass, it can cause the body to feel "out of whack". I know when I first start running again after I haven't in awhile, I feel it in my shins and my lower back.
Many athletes get regular massages to help their muscles to relax as they build. A lot of the athletes I know go to Cloud Mover for the best massages and body treatments Huntington Beach has to offer. Take care of your body while you train for your sport! Your body will thank you.

NFL Draft is Tonight
To me, the NFL draft is the third best thing in the NFL season. First is the Superbowl, second is my fantasy leagues draft, and then the NFL draft. I love to be able to recognize all of the outstanding
players I got to watch in college get drafted. To me though, it is weird that these kids that are being drafted are my age! Instead of sitting on the couch watching tonight, they will have their lives changed forever. Once Roger Goodell steps up to the podium and reads their names, they once college stars will be living their dreams. Another reason why I like the draft is because to me it means the beginning of the next NFL season. You can almost feel the electricity coming out of Music City Hall into your living room. Whoever your favorite team is (mine are the Seahawks and Texans) you are optimistic about your team and their draft strategy. Then hours later if you are a Jets fan, you become polar opposite in feeling.
Anyways, Happy Draft day everyone!

Wins Are Such an Overrated Stat for Pitchers
I was at work earlier today and we started talking about how if Andy Pettitte should be in the Hall of Fame. Then we got to the question of "Would you rather have Pettitte or Tom Glavine?" I, being a Yankees Fan, said Petitte, but everyone else said Glavine. They said it was simply because he has more wins. Then I shook up the whole entire room by stating "wins for a pitcher's individual stat line are the most overrated stat in baseball."
Now wait, because you say this is the most preposterous statement you have ever heard, please just here me out.
I'm going to start by saying wins are very overrated because a win for a pitcher has so many variables that are out of the pitchers control. For example, if a team has a workhouse number one pitcher (ex. Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners), but a crappy offense or bullpen, then his wins will be drastically less than normal. So, does that make him a so called below average pitcher? NO, in fact King Felix is in the top three pitchers in all of MLB. Lets take a look at Hernandez's 2010 season. This was the year he won his Cy Young Award. He only had 13 wins! If you were to only look at the win/loss column, you would have said no way that was worth a Cy Young Award. Exactly my point that wins don't mean much! Look further, and you'll notice he led the league in ERA (2.27) and IP (249.2), and that teams were batting an astonishingly low .212 against him. With that being said, why didn't he have more wins than that with those numbers? It is because of his offense and bullpen. The Mariners hit an abysmal .236 as a team in 2010. Out of the 17 quality starts (pitching 6 innings or more and 3 or less runs) that he went winless in, the offense averaged 1.41 runs and batted .208 for him with a terrible .149 w/ RISP! That's just the offense...in the 17 quality starts for him, which he didn't win, the bullpen gave up at least one run in 12 of 15 starts and had a 9.29 ERA and 2.194 WHIP! Out of his 35 starts that season, 30 of them where QS; of which he maybe had the best lines besides wins a pitcher has ever had. During these 30 starts he pitched 229.2 innings pitched, 214 K's and had a 1.57 ERA and .97 WHIP! So, just based off of his QS, he should have won WAY more than 13 games!
Yes, now I understand this is only one case but there are others out there very similar. Again, I'm not saying that wins are an overrated stat on a team basis. I understand you need to win games to win divisions, championships blah blah blah. I'm simply stating that judging a starting pitcher off just wins is ridiclous and it is one of the worst stats in all of baseball! If you still disagree with me about wins being overrated, I hope by the evidence I have shown that you at least understand my point.

Will the Heat Lose In The Playoffs?
I'm not a big regular season NBA fan, but I do enjoy the playoffs. So, when I saw the Heat have won the first game against the Bucks and 38 of 40 games, I started to ask myself, will they lose a game in the playoffs? If you think about it, they have the best player on the planet (Lebron James) and in my opinion another two of the top 20 players as well (Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade). The Heat will
sweep the Bucks, and then they will go on to probably play the Brooklyn Nets. I don't see anything that would arise to them sweeping them as well.
After all, the Heat did have a 27 game winning streak earlier this year. They are unstoppable in almost every facet of the game. In the post with James and Bosh, and then on the perimeter with Wade and Mario Chalmers. If they do lose a few games in the postseason it will be because they don't have the greatest size down low. Only time will tell, but I don't see them losing a game in the postseason en route to winning back to back Championships.

Revis Trade Great For The Bucs
Going into the week of the 2013 NFL Draft, I knew that the man known as "Revis Island" would be traded from the New York Jets. The thing I didn't know was that it would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Looking at what Darrelle Revis was before he torn his ACL last year, the Bucs got a great deal by only giving up one 1st round pick and a conditional pick in next years draft. Playing in the daunting NFC south where Drew Brees, Cam Newton, and Matt Ryan reside teams need a great secondary.
Upon the signing, Revis signed a 6 year, $96 million deal. It will make Revis the highest paid defensive back in NFL history. There is a twist however, the signing has no guaranteed money for the All-Pro. This is very cool on his part for signing. It shows me that he is wanting to earn his money coming off an injury. He wants to show the Bucs that he is worth the $96 million he just signed. It is a very noble thing that I don't see much anymore in contract negotiations. Hopefully, Revis can be the start of many signings to come!

The Sports World Unites
It's amazing to see how a tragedy such as the Boston Marathon bombing
can bring together not only the nation, but the sports world. There has
been an outpouring of support from organizations outside of Boston
showing their support. The very next morning, The Chicago Tribune gave tribute with their front page of sports to Boston.
Even the bitter rivals, The New York Yankees sang "Sweet Caroline" at the end of the 3rd inning (a tradition for Red Sox faithful during home game). And the fans even got more into showing their support with signage. Never in a million years would I have thought you would see something that says "Yankee Fans Love Boston", but it happened.
Perhaps the biggest outpouring from the sports world came the Boston Bruins last night. The whole crowd joined in on singing the national anthem. If you haven't seen the video yet circulating on multiple social media platforms do so now! Sports seems to have a way to forget about what is happening between the lines and remember what is truly important, and the Boston bombing is just another example.

NHL releases schedule for Six Outdoor Games
The NHL has released the schedule for 2014. A total of six games will be played outdoors which will be a record for the NHL for outdoor games. The first of them start off January 1, 2014 at the Big House on the campus of the University of Michigan. The game will be the Detroit Red Wings versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. The other five remaining games will be played in 4 different cities. Yankee Stadium will host two games; while NHL will also have games in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Vancouver.
Now, myself not being an avid hockey fan, I've always come to enjoy the Winter Classic on New Year's day. I liked how it is a unique event where the NHL could showcase their talent and play hockey naturally outside. It even excites me more now that they will be having six of these "Winter Classics". It is a great marketing move for the struggling NHL to try and get a whole new fan base. The one head scratcher for me is why you would put a Winter Classic in LA? It is not thought of as a hockey town. Now I understand, Gretzky played their for a while, but would it not just be a disaster weather wise?
I truly love the additions of the five extra Winter Classic games. The NHL might just have gotten a new fan!
